    Limagito File Mover practical rule limit

    Q: Practical rule limit question. We are working with a limagito server that is hosting 600+ rules. We have it running via a service and note that shutting down the service we get an error that it is having problems shutting down. Also start up takes 5-10 minutes on restart of service or reboot of system. Is there a practical limit to a server? Is there a way to tell where it is in the start up process or to delay rules from running until the service is up and running (assumption is that it is running rules as the service turns on and causing a lag?)

    A: Please check: Q&A-need-more-details-on-limagitox-file-mover-application/

    2. How many interfaces/rules can be created in Limagito? is there any limitation? How many threads/Rules can be executed in parallel/Simultanious?

    Our advice is to use a maximum of 400 rules per instance of our File Mover. If you need more, please install a second instance of our file mover.

    You can check the LimagitoXS.log file under C:\ProgramData\LimagitoX\Log, it will show you the status during start and stop. Maybe you can find out which Rule(s) are causing the delay.

    However, it would be a good idea to lower the amount of Rules for this instance to 400 by installing a second instance on the same server of a using a second (virtual) server.

    FYI: We did a test here:

    • Startup of LimagitoX File Mover installed as a Service  running 200 Rules takes +/- 25 seconds.

    Question regarding file names and special characters

    Q: Question regarding file names and special characters. I am currently working on my project moving files between our Windows fileshare and a now Windows destination via SFTP.  So far so good, but when I have a file as a source in our Windows fileshare that has special characters like ä, ö, ü, the transmission of the files get an error stating that the host filesystem does not allow such characters as file names.

    Is there any way to move the files and rename the file names during the move ? e.g. if the file contains such a special character, it should be renamed like this

    ä -> ae

    ü -> ue

    ö-> oe

    Feedback Customer: “Disgregard my email I found it”

    A: The customer used the file rename option in their SFTP Destination setup to replace ä with ae, ü with ue and ö with oe.

    The system cannot find the path specified

    Q: The system cannot find the path specified question. Filemover is doing a great job for us with SharePoint, I just have a few questions. I notice that the log is showing errors and it seems to be related to files/folders that fall outside the date range we want.
    I understand why it is not coping them, but I don’t understand why it is throwing errors.

    Example:
    5/14/2025 12:12:59 PM Search Files Error at Path E:\ALG-SHARE\Public\General_FACILITIES\Corporate Documents\XXXXXXX XX XXXXXX XXXX, XXX XXX XXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXX\FYI 12-31-17\Other\XXXXXX XXXX – Closing Documents XXXXXX\XXXXXX XXXX – Purchase Documents – Closing XXXXXX\Closing Documents – XX XXXX – XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXX\: The system cannot find the path specified

    The path is actually there and filemover sees it, it just writes that error to the log and skips over the path. Please let us know if you need to do a zoom call. Thank you as always.

    A: Could you please prefix your current Source path with \\?\

    So instead of E:\YourCurrentPath >> \\?\E:\YourCurrentPath

    Some other examples:

    • Local Drive folder
      • C:\PathThatIsVeryLong\ => \\?\C:\PathThatIsVeryLong\
    • Network Drive Folder:
      • \\ServerName\PathThatIsVeryLong\ => \\?\UNC\ServerName\PathThatIsVeryLong\
      • For a share folder (\\ServerName\PathThatIsVeryLong\), we could use \\?\UNC\ServerName\PathThatIsVeryLong\ where “ServerName” is the name of the computer and “PathThatIsVeryLong” is the name of the shared folder.

    Please have a look at: filenames-longer-256-characters
