Q&A 8: Delete old files without deleting folders in Limagitox File Mover

Q: I’m setting up a new rule to delete old files in a folder tree.  Easy to filter for files of a certain age (10 days old), but I’m concerned that folders would end up being deleted too.  Don’t see a way to tell the program not to touch the folders.

A: As default we do not not delete folders. Only when you tell us to delete empty folders so be sure to disable the red marked option.

Dir Filter Setup: be sure ‘Delete Empty Subdirectories’ is unchecked.

How-To Delete old records from the Logging Database

    Dear users,

    Version v2019.5.1.0

We got a request to delete old records from the File Mover Logging Database. We added ‘Qry Type’ as option to the existing ‘SQL as Source’ to achieve this.

    • Add SQL as Source

    • Set Database Vendor to ‘Use MSSQL Database’

    • Set the MSSQL Server settings of the Logging Database

    • Set Qry Type option to ‘Qry will NOT return data’. Adjust the amount of days you want to keep. At the example below it is set to delete records older than 100 days (adjust the -100 part).

    • Add a ‘dummy’ Pascal Script’ as Destination

    • Set a schedule so trigger this Rule

    Best regards,

    Exit Destination Cyclus On Error

We got a lot of user requests lately. One of them was an option to break/exit the destination output cyclus on error. This only works with multiple destinations. Added in version ‘v11.104.30.0’. Output to the next destination will be interrupted when an error occurs.

    FunctionSetup.ExitOnError

Next option request was to delete a WIN destination file if it already exists. So before the actual copy/move we’ll check if the (source) filename exists in the destination directory and if it exists then we’ll delete it first. Also added in ‘v11.104.30.0’.

    WIN.Destination.DeleteDestinationIfExists

Don’t forget, you can change the method of deleting (Delete Type option) in the Function Setup screen.

    FunctionSetup.DeleteMethod
