Q&A 34: Rules pulling files are changing the modify date

Q: Rules pulling files are changing the modify date. Correct, this is FTP as the source. The file(s) we’re picking up have modification dates on when they were last modified on the source’s side. However, after LimagitoX runs, it updates the modification date in Windows to whenever the rule runs. So it shows all files were updated since last time the job ran.
For example, I ran the job at 9:17am on 12/23/20 and it shows that the file that is dated 05/07/20 (from the source) was last modified right when the job ran, but in reality it wasn’t modified by either party since 5/07/20.

A: Solution, in your Source FTP (or SFTP) setup, please enable ‘Adjust File Times’ option. You can find this in the ‘Common Tab’.

Second FTP Vendor option was added in LimagitoX File Mover

A second FTP vendor was added in LimagitoX File Mover version v2020.9.2.0. This second FTP vendor is also based in the USA and has a long history with providing API’s for many internet protocols. The reason we did this is because there are quite some different FTP servers out there and it seems we couldn’t cover them all. With a second vendor we try to minimize this. The second FTP vendor supports TLS1.3 (Security Tab – Select ‘Automatically TLS’).

Switching can be done on the fly. Default is still the original vendor (Vendor 1 – SB) which we are using for quite some time now. This new option is available under the ‘Setup’ tab of your FTP setup. Feedback experience about using the new vendor would be much appreciated.

How-To use Implicit vs Explicit SSL/TLS in LimagitoX File Mover

When we speak about “SSL“, it usually means “implicit” SSL/TLS. The client must negotiate an SSL/TLS session immediately upon connecting to the server’s port, before then reading the server’s already encrypted greeting or sending any encrypted commands. You’ll need to enable ‘Use Implicit SSL/TLS’ in the setup.

When we speak about “TLS”, it usually wants “explicit” SSL/TLS. The client must not negotiate an SSL/TLS session immediately upon connecting to the server’s port. It must read the server’s unencrypted greeting first, and then later it can send an appropriate STARTTLS command (if the server advertises support for it) to ask for permission to then negotiate an SSL/TLS session before sending any further encrypted commands. You’ll need to enable ‘Use Explicit SSL/TLS’ in the setup.

Default SSL/TLS Implicit vs Explicit Server Settings:

    POP3:
    Port 110: Explicit-TLS
    Port 995: Implicit-SSL

    IMAP:
    Port 143: Explicit-TLS
    Port 993: Implicit-SSL

    SMTP:
Port 25: Unencrypted but could support Explicit-TLS
    Port 465: Implicit-SSL
    Port 587: Explicit-TLS

    FTP(S):
Port 21: Unencrypted but could support Explicit-TLS
    Port 990: Implicit-SSL
